Dendrobium Mountain Magic

Dendrobium Mountain Magic is a hybrid of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, less than 3 cm tall, and Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum, a very large plant.  The smaller parent has reduced the plant size to around 15 cm but the flowers are still very large, 4 cm long.  The plant blooms several times a year and is more tolerant of warm temperatures than its Dendrobium cuthbertsonii parent.  My plant is grown in live sphagnum in a plastic net pot with cool temperatures and good humidity and light.

This is another Dendrobium cuthbertsonii hybrid, a cross of that species and Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum, a very large plant.  The flowers look quite a bit like the flowers of that second species but the plant is very much reduced in size to 15 cm.  The flowers are still very large, however, 4 cm long.  The plant blooms several times a year and is more tolerant of warm temperatures than its Dendrobium cuthbertsonii parent.  My plant is grown in live sphagnum in a clay pot with cool temperatures and good humidity and light.

Dendrobium Mountain Magic is a hybrid of the tiny Dendrobium cuthbertsonii and the much larger cane-type Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum.  The plant resembles the larger parent but is much reduced in size by the influence of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, with 12-15 cm canes and huge flowers that resemble those of Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum.  It is very easy to grow, much easier than either parent, is temperature tolerant and flowers profusely throughout the year.

Dendrobium Mountain Magic is a hybrid of the tiny Dendrobium cuthbertsonii (section Oxyglossum) and the much larger, cane-type Dendrobium pseudoglomeratum (section Pedilonum).  Both the parents are from Papua New Guinea.  The result is a very small plant, less than 15 cm tall with cane-like stems and clusters of pink flowers with an orange lip.  Since both parents have flowers about the same size in spite of the difference in plant size, the flowers are approximately 3 cm in size.  It is a profuse bloomer, reblooming from older canes.
