Masdevallia eurynogaster

Masdevallia eurynogaster is a small species from Ecuador and Peru.  It is another of the Saltatrices group, with a belly-like bulge at the base of the flower and glandular hairs lining the inside of the sepaline tube.  The name "eurynogaster" means "big-bellied."  The plant is 8 cm and the flowers very nearly that size.  I have two plants, one with darker flowers than this.

Masdevallia eurynogaster is a small species from Ecuador and Peru.  It is another of the Saltatrices group, with a belly-like bulge at the base of the flower and glandular hairs lining the inside of the sepaline tube.  The colors on this species, however, are very different from the rest - not as boldly colored, but nevertheless very beautiful in its own way.  The plant is 8 cm and the flowers very nearly that size.  The name "eurynogaster" means "big-bellied."

Masdevallia eurynogaster is another species in the Saltatrices group of Masdevallias.  The flowers in this group are tubular, have glandular hairs on the inside of the flower tube, and have a "belly" at the base of the flower tube.  This species is from Ecuador and blooms on lax spikes that tend to hang over the side of the pot.  The plant is about 9 cm tall and the flowers about 4.5 cm from the tips of the tails.  This is the first time I've grown and bloomed this attractive species.
