Paphiopedilum venustum

My Paphiopedilum venustum is in bloom once again with two flowers.  I like the species, but the flowers on my plant are quite small and the petals reflex back behind the flowers which was especially disappointing when it first bloomed.  The flowers are still beautiful, however, and I decided do a series of macro photos to show some of the details of this remarkable species, a good example of the odd colors and forms in the genus Paphiopedilum.  The species, by the way is from the Himalayas.

  3. I recently saw a paph. venustrum var album (?)at the monthly Southern Ontario Orchid Society meeting. It was spectacular. I'm looking forward to getting one, but I want one that is blooming. Last year, I purchased a number of Paphs that were small and not ready to bloom for another year or so. I thought I was patient. I do enjoy watching plants grow and develop but now I'm thinking I just want plants that are blooming or near blooming size. I want it all, and I want it now!

    1. Hi Elona,
Missed this earlier. I grew this from a seedling and have an album also but it is much slower growing and has not yet bloomed. The album is indeed spectacular and not all that hard to find. I guess my impatience to see things bloom has been tempered a bit over the years, but it is still exciting when soemthing new comes into bloom.
