Dryadella cristata

A true miniature, this little Pleurothallid is only 3 cm tall with 1.5 cm flowers.  Dryadella cristata is from Colombia and blooms in the winter here.  The genus, Dryadella, was separated from Masdevallia and contains approximately 30 species.  In the case of this species the name of this plant refers to the crested petals, visible as blackish-purple bits in the center of the flowers.  The flowers are not very long-lasting and I grow it mounted on a piece of ceder shingle.

  2. Hey there!
I am Στηβ (Steve) from Athens and I blog on MyOrchid.gr (also have a small online local orchid nursery). I am launching the site in English (currently beta just a couple of posts got translated so far). I would like to keep the english version as an international community of bloggers. Here's how it was implemented in Greek http://myorchid.gr/blog/microblogs/ so long story short I am trying to invite people like you that have a passion about orchids and an eye for photography but also know how to care for them. Concept is that it will be as multilingual as possible (the site supports that each article can have as many versions in different languages as the bloggers wish to offer). I think your expertise with orchids and in situ photography will greatly find an audience with our local readers and will greatly help the site to gain international readers. I am not sure how to "sell" this idea to you, I mean I am not sure if there is anything for you to gain since you already have a great blog... I can only think that sharing our passion for orchids in a community like blog is a great idea and as a collective effort would sure find a greater audience and also help educate on orchid conservation and orchid care tips for the cultured species.

With your help MyOrchid could bloom! Thank you for your consideration.
    Best Regards,
    Στηβ

    1. Hi Steve,
I'll look up your site but I can't promise that I'll be able to help since I have all I can do keeping up with my blogs and with an orchid forum.

    3. Thanks, Steve. I would appreciate a little more information on your site works. I looked it over and wasn't sure about whether it was a collection of blogs or one blog where different people are asked to contribute.

    4. Hi Ron, It's one portal, it hosts a blog and a small local e-nursery. For the english version the menu links for the e-shop will be deleted since it is local and I do not want to confuse readers. So no adds.

Regarding the blog, it is one that hosts various microblogs within the community of bloggers. There is a community view that all posts from everyone are featured chronologically (each post has the writers id on the photo header) a hub eg http://myorchid.gr/blog/microblogs/ so you can choose a microblog and then there is each one of the microblogs featuring only the posts of each writer eg http://myorchid.gr/microblogs/eve/ So there is the "myorchid" blog with many people writing and each of the writers has his own microblog too. I believe it will be great for people starting to blog as well as people already blogging since the discoverability and exposure of each post will be greater than any single blog. The concept is that slowly more languages will be added so bilinguals could translate each post in different languages too. It all depends on how well the english version will be received and the participation.

      Best Regards,
      Στηβ
