Dendrobium vexillarius is a variable species from the highlands of
Papua New Guinea. It is variable both in plant size and in flower
color. My plant is 8 cm tall but the species can be much larger.
The unusually colored flowers are 3 cm and last for many months. They
are produced at the end of the older pseudobulbs, often after the leaves
have fallen off, and are usually two or three to each growth. My plant is grown on a piece of cedar shingle and has a pad of moss around the roots.
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks ever so much, Linda.
Deleteveeery nice soft color! most of my plants are of the taller types, with deep red flowers, but i have 2 seed grown plants with short stature like yours, and they should hopefully bloom that lovely color!
ReplyDeleteDid you get yours from England? If so, they probably will look like these. Thanks for looking, Laurent, and I'll keep you posted on the seedlings some of which are approaching blooming size.
DeleteI got them from Germany, but they were probably sourced in England, so I'm pretty sure +they'll bloom that delightful shade of orange!
DeleteMake sure you let me know how they bloom out. Mine started to bloom when it was still very tiny.
DeleteI already have them since 4 years, but some cultivation mistakes reduced them to almost nothing. now they're really regaining vigor, but I've probably lost a few years of good growth!
DeleteWhat mistakes did you make (I'd like to be sure I avoid them)?
DeleteExcellent again Ron. I can't have enough of the Oxyglossum types.
ReplyDeleteThanks, my friend, for stopping in. Neither can I.
DeleteVery original flowers. What a beautiful Dendrobium. Congratulations on the crop. Best regards
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angel. It's the season for many of the Oxyglossum Dendrobiums and my orchidarium is a riot of color at present.
DeleteSuch beautiful and charismatic little flowers! Superb photos, too =)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fizzie. This group of Dendrobiums includes my favorite orchids.
