Dendrobium Gina Perlite is a hybrid of two small Oxyglossum Dendrobiums from New Guinea, Dendrobium prasinum and Dendrobium cuthbertsonii. This particular clone has the name "Crystal White" and has very large flowers for the plant, 4 cm long) but flowers that are by no means crystal white. They are a very pale yellow (the photos reproduce the color accurately). The plant is larger than Dendrobium cuthbertsonii, 4-5 cm in height. It is growing at present in a small clay pot in sphagnum moss.
Nice Blog and beautiful flowers. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThanks, friend, for looking up my blog and for taking the time to comment.
DeleteSuperb Ron! your pictures litterally make it glow! neither of my 2 clones has such beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind comments, Laurent. I tried to find a blog of yours but did not come up with anything. I'd be interested in seeing pictures of your clones since I know that this hybrid comes in an array of colors.
DeleteHi Ron
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to my flickr album. I've just added the G. Perlite pictures I had on hand. I've since acquired a third clone, very similar to the yellow one. I'm quite lazy when it comes to take pictures ;-)
Thanks for the pictures, but I'm glad you added the link.
Deleteooupss forgot the lonk, of course ;-)

I like that orange one especially.
DeleteHi Ron
ReplyDeletethe orange one is the same clone as the pink one! the flower opens orangeish, then gradually "fades" to soft pink.
Thanks, Laurent. I have to take another look but that's neat that it changes color. On another note, I still have to send you the pollen from the Dendrobium. We've been away, so I haven't gotten anything extra done.
DeleteOi Ron
ReplyDeleteHoje fui até janeiro fazendo uma listinha das plantas que desejo, primeiro listei os dendrobiuns, vou tentar encontrar,
mais uma vez obrigado pelas maravilhas que nos apresenta.
abraços
These are all cool growing, Elisabete, so if you can find them you should be able to grow them. My plant came from Tom Perlite of Golden Gate Orchids. Thanks for all the kind comments.
